 About the Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority

The Public Housing Act of 1937 created The United States Housing Authority. Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority was established March 23, 1938. Date of Formal Acceptance for Coopermill Manor, 324 Units, was June 01, 1941. Date of Formal Acceptance of Maple Terrace, 100 Unit mid rise, was October 01, 1973. Date of Formal Acceptance of the Lease Housing Development, 200 Units, which includes Race Circle, Larzelere Ave., Todd Place, Redman Road, Adams Circle, and Michael Drive was October 01, 1974.
Date of Formal Acceptance of Bonifield Court, 50 Units, was Movember 30, 1984.

Administrative offices are located in the J. Lincoln Knapp Center, 407 Pershing Road. This modern structure was dedicated in 1994, and named for the late Judge J. Lincoln Knapp, one of Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority's original commissioners.
The James D. Singer Activity Center at 831 Matthews Street, dedicated in 1996, houses a gymnasium and training facility. This facility is perhaps Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority's most used facility with recreational activities encompassing the entire community. The James D. Singer Center was named in honor of active and long sitting Board member James D. Singer, a commissioner of Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority since 1968.
